What Is ProPan?
ProPan is a UPC-rated shower pan system manufactured using high-density expanded polystyrene reinforced with fiberglass mesh and finished with a waterproof membrane coating.
Each pan is pre-sloped to industry standard 1/4 inch per foot drainage requirements and includes an integrated drain assembly designed for efficient water flow and easier installation.

Basic Installation Overview
Proper installation is essential for long-term waterproof performance and tile durability.
Before installation:
- Ensure walls are square and plumb
- Verify the subfloor is clean, level, and structurally sound
- Cut drain opening to proper dimensions
- Dry fit the shower pan before applying mortar
- Confirm proper drain alignment
Installation materials typically include:
- Modified thin-set mortar
- Polyurethane sealant
- PVC or ABS solvent cement
- 1/4" x 1/4" notched trowel
- Utility knife or circular saw for modifications
The shower pan is installed using modified thin-set mortar applied to both the subfloor and underside of the pan to achieve full support and proper bonding.
Wall Backer Board Installation
ProPan systems are designed to work with FinPan ProPanel Lightweight Waterproof Backer Board as well as approved cement backer boards.
Polyurethane sealant is applied at all rabbet joints and panel connections to help create a continuous waterproof system.
All seams, fasteners, and transitions should be properly sealed according to manufacturer installation guidelines.
When using cement backer boards, fiberglass mesh and liquid waterproofing should be applied at all pan-to-wall transitions.
Tile Installation Recommendations
Tile should be installed using modified thin-set mortar and in accordance with Tile Council of North America (TCNA) installation guidelines.
ProPan shower systems are compatible with:
