SunTouch PM-DP Snow Sensor Control & Display Panel
Installation Manual and Operating Guide
Please read all instructions carefully before installation and operation.
Save this installation manual for future reference.
Home Automation Interface
The SunTouch PM-DP Snow Sensor Control and Display Panel includes an optional home automation interface for remote system control.
This feature allows the snow melting system to be activated using compatible home automation systems, computer controls, or telephone-based triggering systems.
Closing both the Trigger and Enable input contacts will start one automatic snow melting cycle, similar to pressing the MANUAL ON button directly on the controller.
Once the cycle is complete, the PM-DP automatically returns to Automatic Mode.
The Enable input may also be connected to a secondary safety contact to help prevent unintended system activation.
If only one contact set is available, a jumper wire may be installed across terminals 3 and 4.
A simple toggle switch may also be connected across the Enable input for manual activation or disabling of the automation interface.

Important Safety Information
|
1. Installation should only be performed by qualified personnel. 2. To avoid electrical shock hazards, do not open the snow sensor controller cover while power is connected. 3. Disconnect all circuit breakers and high-voltage power sources before servicing or opening the enclosure. |
PM-DP Snow Sensor Control Overview
The PM-DP Snow Sensor Control and Display Panel is designed for use with SunTouch PM-2B rain and snow sensor controllers.
The PM-DP allows remote monitoring and operation of the connected snow melting sensor system.
Users can monitor:
- Operating mode
- Activation status
- Snow melting operation
The PM-DP also allows users to:
- Enable automatic operation
- Disable automatic operation
- Start a manual snow melting cycle
The PM-DP is powered directly by the connected snow sensor and does not require batteries or AC power.
With an operating temperature range from -40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C), the PM-DP is suitable for indoor or protected outdoor installations.
Installing the PM-DP Control & Display Panel
Installation requires:
- CS-1 Remote Control/Monitor Pigtail
- 5-conductor cable between the snow sensor and PM-DP panel
Recommended wiring:
- Minimum 22 AWG cable
- Shielded cable preferred
- Maximum cable distance: 800 feet
Recommended cable types include:
- Belden 9941
- Alpha 1295C
- Equivalent shielded cable
Disconnect all power before opening the snow sensor enclosure.
Install the CS-1 pigtail and route the 5-conductor cable between the sensor and PM-DP enclosure.
PM-DP Terminal Connections
| CS-1 Wire Color | Function | Terminal |
|---|---|---|
| Black | Manual On | 5 |
| White | Return | 6 |
| Green | Standby / Reset | 7 |
| Orange | Deice On Monitor | 8 |
| Red | Deice On Monitor | 9 |
The PM-DP may be installed in standard single-gang or multi-gang electrical enclosures.
If installed near high-voltage equipment, wiring isolation methods must comply with local electrical codes.
The PM-DP faceplate may also be grounded to reduce static discharge risk in dry winter conditions.
External Control & Monitor Operation
The PM-DP includes three operating buttons:
- STANDBY
- AUTOMATIC
- MANUAL ON
LED indicators display the current operating status of the snow sensor system.
To conserve energy, LED indicators blink periodically rather than remaining constantly illuminated.
Operating Modes:
- STANDBY: Prevents automatic snow melting operation.
- AUTOMATIC: Allows automatic snow detection and activation.
- MANUAL ON: Starts one manual drying cycle before automatically returning to automatic mode.
The drying cycle allows heated surfaces to fully dry after snowfall stops.
Manual ON operation is commonly used for testing or clearing remaining snow and ice.
