What is Efflorescence?

Efflorescence is the white chalky powder commonly found on concrete, brick, mortar, masonry, and Saltillo tile surfaces. It occurs when water-soluble salts migrate through porous materials and are deposited on the surface as moisture evaporates.

While cleaning removes visible deposits, moisture conditions may cause efflorescence to return over time. Proper sealing after cleaning can help reduce and control future reappearance.

Approximately 1,000 to 2,000 square feet per gallon when diluted, depending on surface porosity, contamination level, and application method.

Application Instructions

Always test a small inconspicuous area before full application. Pre-wet the surface with clean water prior to applying cleaner.

Depending on the cleaning task, the cleaner may be diluted with up to five parts water. Always add acid cleaner to water, never water to acid cleaner.

Apply solution and allow it to dwell for approximately two to five minutes. Agitate using a stiff nylon brush, natural bristle brush, or white scrub pad to loosen haze, dirt, mineral buildup, or residue.

Do not allow cleaner to dry on the surface. Remove dirty solution using a mop or wet vacuum and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if necessary for heavily contaminated surfaces.

Before applying any sealer or coating, surfaces should be properly neutralized and allowed to dry completely.
