Terrazzo Characteristics

Terrazzo is an artisanal material and slight shade, texture, aggregate, and color variations are natural characteristics of the product. Minor chips, pitting, and variation between pieces are considered normal and enhance the authentic terrazzo appearance.

Installation Recommendations:

• Sealing is required before and after grouting
• Use a high-quality water-based penetrating sealer designed for natural stone and terrazzo
• Traditional cementitious grout is recommended
• Modern epoxy grout systems may also be used when installed according to manufacturer instructions
• Professional installation is recommended for best results
• Always follow current TCNA and ANSI installation standards
• Order at least 10% additional material for cuts and waste

Recommended Substrates:

• Properly cured mortar beds meeting ANSI A108.1B standards
• Cementitious backer units (CBU) meeting ANSI A118.9
• Concrete slabs cured a minimum of 28 days
• Gypsum board in dry interior areas only
• Approved waterproof membrane systems for wet areas

Care & Maintenance:

• Clean regularly using pH-neutral cleaners safe for natural stone and terrazzo
• Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaning products
• Resealing periodically is recommended for long-term stain protection
• Use soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaning materials
