Alpha Professional Tools Wet/Dry Laser Segmented Core Bits
Alpha® Wet/Dry Laser Segmented Core Bits are designed for drilling holes in a wide range of hard surfaces and construction materials, including porcelain tile, sintered slabs, granite, quartz, engineered stone, and marble. The laser-welded segmented design supports wet or dry drilling applications, making these diamond core bits useful for countertop fabrication, tile installation, and other professional construction work.
These core bits are designed for use with compatible high-speed angle grinders featuring a 5/8"-11 spindle. They can also be used with a compatible core bit extension for certain hammer drill or rotary hammer setups, but percussion must not be used with the diamond core bit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drill porcelain paver tile dry?
Yes. Alpha® recommends using a Laser Segmented Core Drill Bit with a high-speed angle grinder. Supplying water for cooling can improve bit performance and help control dust. Because porcelain pavers are very hard and dense, Alpha® does not recommend using this core bit with a hammer drill or rotary hammer for this application due to the required rotational speed.
Can I use the laser segmented core bit and extension with percussion?
No. Diamond core bits rely on continuous grinding action and high peripheral speed to cut effectively. Percussion can damage the diamond cutting edges. Use the core bit without hammering or percussion action.
Why would I use a pilot carbide drill bit?
When drilling by hand, it can be difficult to keep a core bit flat and positioned accurately on the surface. A pilot carbide drill bit can help stabilize the initial application and establish a groove for the diamond segments. Follow the tool manufacturer's instructions for the specific drilling setup.
Does Alpha® offer a core bit extension with a spline shank?
According to the supplied product information, Alpha® does not offer a core bit extension with a spline shank because the lower rotational speed of larger spline-shank rotary hammers is not suitable for this diamond drilling application.
What is the maximum drilling depth?
The supplied product information states that Alpha® Laser Segmented Core Bits can be used up to 4" deep. For deeper drilling applications, water is recommended as a cooling agent for improved performance.
Can I use an extension made for a tungsten carbide core bit?
No. The extension may have a different thread size and may not be compatible with the Alpha® Laser Welded Core Bit. Verify the thread specifications before selecting an extension.
Important Usage Notes
- Check the maximum RPM for the selected core bit size and do not exceed it.
- Confirm that the tool, spindle, extension, and accessories are compatible before use.
- Use appropriate eye, hearing, and respiratory protection and follow the tool manufacturer's safety instructions.
- When drilling dry, use suitable dust collection and follow applicable safety requirements for the material being drilled.
