The Composeal Blue Shower Pan Liner is a flexible 40 mil PVC waterproofing membrane engineered to provide long-lasting moisture protection beneath tile and stone installations. Designed to be concealed beneath a 1-1/4 in. to 2 in. thick mortar bed, it creates a dependable waterproof barrier for showers, Roman tubs, whirlpool bath enclosures, fountains, roof decks, and other wet-area applications.

Installation Information

Before installation, ensure the subfloor is properly sloped toward the drain at 1/4 inch per foot and free from debris, gravel, or protrusions. Extend the membrane at least 3 inches above the finished curb height and fasten only above the curb line.

Wood studs should be notched to accommodate the membrane thickness, while metal stud installations should use furring strips to maintain a flat wall surface. Use clamping-ring drains with weep holes and perform a 24-hour water test before covering the membrane with mortar.

The included solvent cement is used to create strong waterproof seams, while the included curb protectors and inside corners reinforce vulnerable waterproofing areas.

Testing and Code Compliance

Composeal 30 and 40 mil membranes have been independently tested and meet Ceramic Tile Institute waterproofing membrane requirements. The membranes comply with UPC-IAPMO, SBCCI, and BOCA plumbing codes and have received municipal approvals where required, including approvals referenced by the manufacturer for the City of Los Angeles, City of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Dade County, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Composeal also complies with Corps of Engineers specifications for PVC shower pan materials and meets FHA Publication 4900.1 requirements.

Warranty Information

Composeal 30 and 40 mil membranes are warranted against material failure. Warranty coverage applies to the membrane material itself and does not extend to installation methods, consequential damages, or conditions beyond the manufacturer's control. Under normal conditions, Composeal membranes are designed to last for the life of the building.
