SereneDrains Wall Drain Linear Shower Drain Installation Guide

SereneDrains Wall Drain linear shower drains are designed to install along the shower wall, creating a clean, low-profile drain installation with a removable tile insert that coordinates with the surrounding shower floor.

This installation guide explains how to install the SereneDrains Wall Drain, including the waste pipe connection, drain positioning, waterproofing, shower floor slope, tile installation, tile insert installation, and final grouting.

Before You Begin

Read all installation instructions before starting. Installation should be performed by a qualified professional familiar with shower waterproofing, plumbing, mortar, and tile installation. Always follow applicable local plumbing and building codes, as well as the instructions provided by the manufacturers of the waterproofing system, thin-set mortar, tile, and grout.

What's Included

  • SereneDrains Wall Drain channel
  • Drain grate
  • Flexible PVC pipe coupling with stainless steel hose clamps
  • Grate key puller

The flexible PVC coupling supplied with the drain is used to connect the drain outlet to the shower waste pipe. No separate coupling is required when the supplied fitting is compatible with the installed waste pipe.

STEP 1: PREPARE THE SHOWER AREA

Prepare the shower floor and wall structure for installation of the SereneDrains Wall Drain. The drain is designed to be installed along the shower wall, with the drain body positioned at the finished wall location.

Confirm the drain length, drain location, finished floor height, and required rough opening before beginning installation.

The shower floor must be constructed with a proper slope toward the wall drain. Install the shower waterproofing system according to the waterproofing manufacturer's instructions.

STEP 2: CONFIRM THE DRAIN LOCATION AND ROUGH OPENING

Position the SereneDrains Wall Drain along the shower wall and confirm that the drain body fits properly within the planned opening.

Make sure sufficient space is available behind and below the drain for the waste connection and proper installation of the shower floor assembly.

Before permanently installing the drain, verify that the drain outlet is correctly positioned in relation to the shower waste pipe.

STEP 3: INSTALL AND SUPPORT THE DRAIN BODY

Place the SereneDrains Wall Drain in its final position along the shower wall. The drain must be level from end to end.

Secure and properly support the drain body so it cannot move during waterproofing, mortar installation, or tile installation.

Set the drain at the correct finished height so the tile insert surface will finish properly with the surrounding shower floor tile.

STEP 4: CONNECT THE WALL DRAIN TO THE WASTE PIPE

Connect the drain outlet to the shower waste pipe using the flexible PVC coupling supplied with the drain.

Position the supplied coupling fully over the drain outlet and the waste pipe. Tighten both stainless steel clamps securely to create a firm connection.

Make sure the drain outlet and waste pipe are properly aligned and supported before continuing with the shower floor installation.

STEP 5: TEST THE DRAIN CONNECTION

Before covering the plumbing connection, inspect the flexible coupling and stainless steel clamps to make sure they are properly positioned and securely tightened.

Perform a water test of the drain connection as required by local plumbing requirements. Check carefully for any signs of leakage before continuing with the shower floor assembly.

STEP 6: INSTALL THE WATERPROOFING SYSTEM

Install the shower waterproofing system according to the waterproofing manufacturer's instructions.

The waterproofing system must properly integrate with the SereneDrains Wall Drain and surrounding shower walls and floor. Pay particular attention to the area where the drain meets the wall and shower floor.

Complete all required waterproofing details before installing the tile.

STEP 7: CREATE THE SHOWER FLOOR SLOPE

Build the shower floor so the finished surface slopes continuously toward the wall drain.

Maintain a minimum slope of approximately 1/4 inch per foot toward the drain, or the slope required by your local code and waterproofing system.

The finished floor should not have low spots or areas where water can collect away from the drain.

STEP 8: INSTALL THE SHOWER TILE

Install the shower floor tile using the appropriate thin-set mortar and installation method for the selected tile and waterproofing system.

Cut and position the tile carefully around the SereneDrains Wall Drain. Maintain a consistent, clean joint between the surrounding tile and the drain.

The tile insert model is designed to receive tile inside the insert tray so the finished drain surface coordinates with the surrounding shower floor.

STEP 9: INSTALL TILE INTO THE DRAIN INSERT

Cut the tile to fit inside the tile insert tray.

Dry-fit the tile before applying mortar to confirm the size and orientation are correct. Apply the appropriate thin-set mortar and install the tile inside the insert tray according to standard tile installation practices.

The finished tile surface should sit properly within the drain insert while maintaining the required drainage path into the wall drain channel.

Allow the setting material to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.

STEP 10: COMPLETE GROUTING AND FINAL INSTALLATION

After the tile and setting material have properly cured, complete the grout installation according to the grout manufacturer's instructions.

Clean the tile and drain area carefully, removing excess grout and construction residue.

Verify that the finished tile insert and surrounding shower floor are properly aligned and that water flows freely toward and into the SereneDrains Wall Drain.

Allow the grout and other installation materials to fully cure before placing the shower into service.

Installation Complete

The SereneDrains Wall Drain installation is complete once the drain is securely installed, the supplied flexible PVC coupling is properly connected, waterproofing is completed, the shower floor has the required slope, and the tile and grout have been properly installed and cured.
