Simple Floor Heating Control
The Tempo is designed for users who want simple, direct control of an electric floor heating system without a programmable schedule. The desired temperature can be adjusted using the thermostat's temperature adjustment buttons.
The thermostat automatically activates or deactivates the heating system as required to maintain the selected temperature. This provides straightforward control for rooms where a programmed heating schedule is not required.
Floor or Ambient Temperature Control
The Tempo can be configured to control either the floor temperature or the ambient room temperature. When configured for floor temperature control, the included external floor sensor measures the temperature of the heated floor and allows the thermostat to maintain the selected floor temperature.
When configured for ambient temperature control, the thermostat uses its internal temperature sensor to monitor the room temperature and operates the floor heating system according to the selected room temperature.
Floor Temperature Sensor
The Tempo includes an external floor temperature sensor for installations where floor temperature control is required. The sensor connects to the thermostat using dedicated sensor terminals and should be positioned between two floor heating wires for accurate temperature measurement.
The sensor cable should be routed separately from the electrical wires and should not come into direct contact with the floor heating wires. The sensor head should not be stapled directly to the floor, as this can damage the sensor.
Built-In Class A GFCI Protection
The Tempo includes Class A 5mA GFCI protection designed to help protect against electrical ground faults. A dedicated GFCI test button and indicator light allow the GFCI function to be checked after installation.
When the GFCI detects a ground fault condition, it interrupts power to the heating load. The GFCI should be tested according to the manufacturer's instructions and applicable electrical requirements.
Temperature Adjustment
The Tempo provides direct temperature adjustment using the thermostat's control buttons. The thermostat displays the current temperature and provides a visual indication of the selected temperature setpoint.
The temperature setting range is 40°F to 82°F or 104°F (5°C to 28°C or 40°C), depending on the selected temperature control configuration.
Heating Intensity Indicator
The Tempo includes a heating intensity indicator that provides a visual indication of the heating system's operating level. The indicator helps show when the thermostat is calling for heat and the relative heating intensity of the system.
Unoccupied Mode
The Tempo includes an Unoccupied mode that can be used to reduce the floor heating temperature when the space is not occupied. This provides a convenient way to reduce heating during periods when the normal comfort temperature is not required.
Backlight and On/Off Controls
The thermostat includes a backlight function for improved display visibility and a dedicated On/Off switch for turning the floor heating system on or off.
The On/Off switch allows the heating system to be disabled without changing the temperature settings.

Temperature Control Modes
The Tempo provides flexibility by allowing the thermostat to control either the floor temperature or the ambient room temperature. Floor temperature control uses the external sensor supplied with the thermostat, while ambient temperature control uses the thermostat's internal temperature sensor.
This makes the Tempo suitable for different electric floor heating installations where direct floor temperature control or room temperature control is desired.
Installation Information
The Tempo is designed for indoor installation with 120VAC or 240VAC electric floor heating systems. The connected heating load must not exceed the thermostat's 15A maximum resistive load.
The thermostat's housing is not watertight and should not be installed where it can be exposed to water or rain. The floor sensor should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions and positioned between two floor heating wires for accurate temperature measurement.
All wires and connections must comply with applicable local electrical codes. Special CO/ALR solderless connectors must be used when connecting the thermostat's tinned copper wires to aluminum conductors.
Because this product connects directly to line voltage, installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable local electrical codes and requirements.
Recommended Applications
The Tempo is designed for indoor electric floor heating applications where simple, non-programmable temperature control is desired. It can be used with electric radiant floor heating systems in residential spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and other areas with heated floors.
The simple controls make the Tempo suitable for installations where automatic scheduling is not required and the user prefers direct temperature adjustment.
Important Installation Information
Review the complete installation and operating instructions before installing or operating the thermostat. Verify the electrical supply, heating load, floor sensor, and desired temperature control mode before installation.
The Tempo is rated for a maximum resistive load of 15A, with a maximum power rating of 1,800W at 120VAC or 3,600W at 240VAC.
Because the Tempo involves line-voltage electrical connections and built-in GFCI protection, installation and electrical testing should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable local electrical codes and requirements.
